League leader

Coweta: The Tigers are certainly the class of the league to this point. After staring the season 14-1, Coweta had a brief hiccup with two losses in the Shawnee tournament to Southeast and Stillwater. However, a win over Tahlequah on Tuesday night could get Coweta rolling again.



Up and coming

Bishop Kelley: The Comets' only setback in league play was a 55-52 loss to Coweta back on Dec. 18. Since then, Bishop Kelley has rattled off three wins in league play while winning seven of its last night games. Bishop Kelley's final shot at Coweta will be at home on Feb. 8.



On the skids

Claremore: The Zebras' state-tournament berth three years ago must feel like a long time ago. This season, Claremore has sputtered in and out of Metro Lakes Conference play. The Zebras have lost all 17 of their games this season, including eight in league action. After suffering an overtime loss to Skiatook on Tuesday, the Zebras will have five more regular-season games to try and get their first victory.



Notes

Needing extra time: Skiatook has gone to great lengths to provide its fans with extra entertainment during the last two-plus weeks. In five of their last six games, the Bulldogs have played at least one overtime period, including a matchup against Cascia Hall in the Port City Classic that went into a second overtime period. Skiatook's string of overtime games started on Jan. 15 in a 64-61 loss to Collinsville. The lone non-overtime game for Skiatook during that period was a 73-44 blowout of Claremore at the Port City Classic.

A slight rankings hit: Heading into the Shawnee tournament, Coweta looked like a potential candidate to be the new No. 1 in Class 5A. However, two losses bumped the Tigers from the No. 3 spot to fifth in this week's coaches' poll on okrankings.com.

Surging Surritte: Skiatook guard A.J. Surritte has been the most consistent scorer in the league to this point. Surritte posted a season-high 29 points in a loss to Verdigris last week, and he is averaging 18.5 points a game this season.

League leader

Claremore: The Lady Zebras have flirted with several potential losses in league play, but they have managed to win six Metro Lakes Conference games in a row since falling to Skiatook in early December.



Up and coming

Tahlequah and Collinsville: Both clubs are on Claremore's coattails in the standings. Behind Claremore by a game apiece, Tahlequah and Collinsville — Nos. 9 and 10, respectively, in the 5A coaches' poll — will meet Tuesday in Collinsville.



On the skids

Skiatook: The Lady Bulldogs started the season strong, winning two of their first three games of the season and dropping the fourth game of the year in overtime against Coweta. However, that loss to Coweta triggered what is currently a 13-game losing streak.



Notes

Missing their stripes: The recent Port City Classic took a toll on Claremore. In their first game since the tournament on Tuesday night, the Lady Zebras were without Monica Taylor and Alex Crews. Both are out with injuries, and Taylor could be back before the end of the regular season. Crews’ status is still up in the air.

Kirby is killin’ it: Collinsville’s Shelbie Kirby has been on a roll all year. The senior guard has tied or led the Lady Cardinals in scoring in all but one of 17 games this season. She tallied a season-high 27 points against Miami back in December, and she’s averaging 16.4 points per game.

These two clubs have found a way of producing quality entertainment for the last couple of years. And with Claremore and Collinsville still in the league-title hunt, the odds are pretty good that whomever wins this game will win the conference crown.
