HAMMOND, La. — Damen Bell-Holter surpassed the 1,000-point plateau with a career-best 35 points as Oral Roberts won its first Southland Conference game 86-72 over Southeastern Louisiana in each team’s conference opener.
Bell-Holter entered with 978 points in his career and hit 12 of 18 from the field and 11 of 15 from the line while also grabbing 14 rebounds for his third double-double this year.
Oral Roberts (6-7) was playing its first game within the Southland after moving to the conference last offseason. The Golden Eagles were tabbed preseason favorites by the league’s coaches and sports information directors.
Roosevelt Johnson led the Lions (2-9) with 18 points and seven rebounds.
Oral Roberts shot 60.8 percent (31 of 51) and drained 9 of 11 3-point attempts with Warren Niles (18 points) hitting 3 of 4 from deep and D.J. Jackson (11 points) going 3 for 3 beyond the arc.
