Sequoyah sweeps Wagoner

Sequoyah, ranked 14th in Class 4A, will take some momentum to Orlando, Fla., after a 3-0 (25-10, 25-12, 25-13) victory over Wagoner on Tuesday.

The Lady Indians improved to 7-4 before boarding a plane to the Sunshine State on Wednesday.

"We played well," said Sequoyah coach Jay Herrin, whose team came up with 20-plus serves on Tuesday. "And we served the ball well."

When Sequoyah begins the first of three games on Thursday in the KSA Tournament, it will play Rondut Valley (N.Y.) at 2 p.m.

Stoops plans on revealing kicker on Wednesday

NORMAN (AP) — Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops says he has chosen a starting place-kicker but he doesn't plan to announce who it will be until Wednesday.

Jimmy Stevens, walk-on Patrick O'Hara and Tress Way went a combined 18-for-28 last season and key misses left Oklahoma short in close losses against BYU, Texas and Nebraska. Stevens and O'Hara have been competing with freshman Michael Hunnicutt and redshirt freshman Bryce Easley for the starting job during training camp.

Stoops said at his news conference Tuesday he's made a choice but he wants to inform the kickers before he makes a public announcement.

Stoops says the kicker he has chosen "needs to be given an opportunity to keep it and improve with it as opposed to some knee-jerk reaction and change it every kick."

Thunder hires Winger as assistant GM

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma City Thunder have hired Michael Winger as an assistant general manager and David Vanterpool as a pro scout in a restructuring of the team's basketball operations department.

Assistant general manager Troy Weaver was promoted to a vice president and Rob Hennigan was promoted to assistant general manager of player personnel in a series of moves brought on by the departure of assistant general manager Rich Cho to become the GM of the Portland Trail Blazers.

Paul Rivers and Brandon Barnett also received promotions in minor league operations.

Winger comes to the Thunder from the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he was a director of basketball operations and team counsel. Vanterpool was previously an assistant coach for CSKA Moscow of the Euroleague.
