NSU wins tennis season opener in Arkansas
CONWAY, Ark. – Northeastern State opened the 2010 tennis season on Friday with an impressive 8-1 victory over Harding University.
The RiverHawks (1-0) won all three doubles matches and five of their six singles matches to earn the win.
Zuzanna Osinska and Emina Spirtovic blanked Fabiola Wisnesky and Ling Chan 8-0 at No. 1 doubles.
Claire Chanay and Ivana Belejova dispatched Ellie Hammons and Chelsea Hunt, 8-2, at No. 2, while Karolina Cichon and Michaela Romanova teamed up at No. 3 double to upend Callie Huey and Katherine Golik, 8-1.
In singles action, Oskinska picked up a pair of straight-set 6-0 wins at No. 1 over Chan. Spirtovic had little trouble with Hunt in No. 2 singles play and Romanova beat Lola Pardo 6-2, 6-0.
Huey captured Harding's lone win of the afternoon with a three set decision over Belejova at No. 4 singles. Belejova won the first set 6-1, but dropped the second 6-3 and lost a 13-11 marathon tie-breaker.
Cichon also needed three sets to pick up the win at No. 5 singles. After dropping the first set 6-4, she came back to log a 6-2 win in the second and a 10-2 tie-breaker in the third. Chanay got a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6 for the final outcome.
