TAHLEQUAH DAILY PRESS — The ECHO home school basketball teams were swept on Monday night in a pair of closely contested games with Regent Prep.

For the Lady Knights, Rosita Gallardo finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, but Regent Prep held off ECHO 32-31.

“This [ECHO] is a good team that has played together for several years and will have a nice season this year,” said ECHO coach Donny Daniels.

Regent Prep came out with a 10-8 lead after the first quarter and led by as many as eight points in the second before the Lady Knights rallied. ECHO held a 23-22 advantage after three quarters, but were outscored 10-8 in the final frame.

Amilia Tinnin added nine points, seven rebounds and three steals for the Lady Knights. Caty Honeycutt had four points and nine rebounds and Emily Daniel and Kimberlin Honeycutt each added two points each.

The ECHO boys team jumped out to a big lead early, but Regent Prep rallied for a 48-47 victory over the Knights.

“This boys team [ECHO] is a young team that is still learning to play together,” said Daniels. “They have loads of raw talent and continue to improve.”

ECHO came out strong and held a 21-4 lead after the first quarter. Regent Prep then outscored the Knights 20-6 in the second to cut the halftime deficit to three points.

Regent Prep then outscored the Knights in the third and fourth to come away with the one-point victory.

Zachery Kelley finished with a team-high 15 points and nine rebounds. Justin Currie added eight points, 18 rebounds and 14 blocks.

Jaime Gilbertson (10), Dale Sterling (9), Jonathon Clark (2), Mark Wilcox (2) and Jacob Burley (1) also scored for ECHO.

“Many guys had good games in this one, but turnovers got the better of us,” said Daniels.
