Taylor advances to state in high jump

TAHLEQUAH DAILY PRESS — A pair of Lady Riders qualified for the state track meet with a great performance at the regional meet at Vinita on Saturday.

Paiten Taylor was regional champion in the high jump with a jump of five feet, four inches.

Tande Beaver also qualified for state in the shot put, placing third with a throw of 32 feet, seven inches.

As teams, the Lady Riders finished in tenth place with a total of 18 points. The boys team finished 13th with two points.

Other high finishers were Karley Dodson, who finished seventh in the 100-meter hurdles and ninth in the 300-meter hurdles, and the 1600-meter relay team of Dodson, Kelsey Anderson, Ashley Hughes and Sammy Keener, who placed sixth and could still qualify for state depending on how the other regionals turn out.

Brett Walker may still qualify for state after he finished fifth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:25.0.

The Riders will be at the state meet at Mustang this Friday and Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
