TAHLEQUAH DAILY PRESS — The Lady Tigers track team continued to improve Monday when they finished sixth at the Owasso Invitational.
On the girls side, freshman Summer Morgan led the way as she won the high jump competition with a jump of five feet, two inches.
The Lady Tigers received points in two other events as well, the 800-meter run and the 1600-meter relay.
In the 800, Kaelyn Grant ran a 2:32.19 to place fifth.
Tahlequah also took fifth in the 1600-meter relay with a time of 4:21. Team members were Cassie White, Vanessa Revas, Sarah Hix and Morgan.
In other events, Hix competed in the 1600-meter run for the first time in two years and ran an impressive 5:46 to finish just outside receiving points in seventh place. All the runners that defeated Hix were from 6A schools.
Another positive sign came from Naus Barnett who competed well in just her second try in the 800-meter run. Barnett ran a 2:44.8 and finished second in her heat, but did not place overall.
“We need to try and make sure everyone is healthy for conference,” said Miller.
The conference meet will be held next Tuesday at Skiatook. The following Friday the Lady Tigers will compete in their final meet of the regular season at Broken Arrow.
“We need to get more consistent,” said Miller.
For the boys team, the undermanned Tigers finished 11th in the meet.
“We didn’t run many events,” said Tigers coach Bart Frank.
The highest placer was junior Adam Stovall who took second in the high jump.
“Adam had a good day high jumping,” said Frank.
The 400-meter relay team of Billy Fry, Calvin Riggs, Quincy McDowell and Stovall took fifth.
The other points came from Fry who placed fifth in the long jump.
The next meet for the team is the Metro Lakes Conference Meet Tuesday.
“These little bumps and bruises we’re fighting through we have to do it with more mental toughness and fight through it,” said Frank.
