TAHLEQUAH DAILY PRESS — After a late name change in the Hulbert Alumni Football game, the Gold defeated the Black, 22-6, as Chase Johnson had two touchdown passes to secure the win.
Johnson found Ryan Sierra for 18 yards in the second quarter for a 14-6 Gold lead. The run failed, then passed nine yards to Sam York in the fourth quarter. Max Travis ran for the two points for a 22-8 lead.
The Gold opened the scoring in the first quarter with a Robert Casey seven yard run. Johnson ran for the two points for an 8-0 lead.
The Black scored its only points in the in the second quarter as Jason Steeley found Rusty Daniels for 13 yards. The run failed so the score remained 8-6 in Gold's favor.
The only other threat Black had was in the third quarter, but Matt McCrary's interception ended the scoring chance.
The offensive MVP was Chase Johnson while the defensive MVP went to Chris Smith.

Emily Linebarger walked out of the Oklahoma City Tennis Center unsure of her All-State prospects. The Tahlequah senior had just wrapped up her tennis career with a, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, loss to Booker T. Washington’s Audrey Still at the Class 5A state tournament.

In 1980, Karen Carter — now known as Karen Carey — became an All-State tennis player at Tahlequah High School. Thirty-two years later, her daughter has followed in her footsteps.
