SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. — Both Tahlequah basketball teams were denied third place in the Siloam Springs Holiday Invitational on Saturday night.
The Tahlequah girls lost to Prairie Grove (Ark.), 42-41, in a game that came down to the final seconds.
Prairie Grove’s Macie Kiltgen knocked down a free throw to help her team grab a one-point lead, and Tahlequah’s final possession ended with a missed 3-pointer by Casey Beaston.
Kiltgen led Prairie Grove with 16 points.
Randee O’Donnell paced Tahlequah with 14 points.
The Lady Tigers fall to 7-4 and return to action Saturday at Bishop McGuinness.
The Tahlequah boys fell to Greenwood (Ark.), 60-41. Lain Wright posted 13 points to lead the Tigers (3-7).
Entering the fourth quarter down by 10 points, Tahlequah buried back-to-back 3-pointers to cut Greenwood’s lead to four points. But Greenwood limited Tahlequah to three points the rest of the way to win comfortably.
Tahlequah was coming off a 68-56 loss to Siloam Springs on Friday night. Dalton Cunningham dropped in 19 points for the Tigers, who were within five of the Panthers with five to play.
“That’s probably the best we’ve played all year,” Tahlequah coach Mike Leafgreen said. “We only had nine turnovers, and that was huge for us. Plus, we were playing a team that could come win the 5A title here in Oklahoma.”
