THS finishes 3rd at XC meet

TULSA — Jessica Hembree ran 3,200 meters in 12:35 to help Tahlequah’s cross country team finish third at the Holland Hall meet on Saturday morning.

Hembree came in sixth overall and was 48 seconds off the winning pace, which was set by Sapulpa’s Abby Hoover. Jenks’ Maddie Brown (12:04) and Grace Barber (12:12) rounded out the top three.

Jenks won the team title with 29 points. Sapulpa was second at 103, and Tahlequah was third at 107.

Also for Tahlequah, Gracie Medellin (12:59) came in 12th, and Amy Hembree (13:13) was 18th. Lindsey Chaffin (13:16) and Breanna Duncan (14:20) rounded out the rest of Tahlequah’s times.

On the boys side, Tahlequah, led by Zech VanFleet, came in fifth. VanFleet, who finished fifth overall, finished the 5,000-meter race in 16:59.

Ara Poteete (17:25) was 15th, Mo Bassime (17:48) came in 20th and Seth Martin (18:29) finished 39th. Aaron Eversole (19:56) rounded out Tahlequah’s top five in 77th place.

Jenks won the team title with 41 points. Deer Creek (71), Union (105) and Bartlesville (154) claimed the top four spots in the team standings.

Jenks’ Cody Jones won the race at 15:55.

Tahlequah’s next race will be Saturday at home in the Tiger Invitational.
