THS senior nabs All-State cheer honor

Nicole McClelland just didn’t feel right without her teammates. Yet, she was on her own at All-State cheerleading tryouts.

“Preparing the actual cheer was the hardest part,” McClelland said. “Not only do your motions and expressions have to be perfect, but so do your words. Yelling by myself without my team was very different.”

She nailed it, though.

McClelland’s routine landed her Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State honors. She will join 16 other squad members on the East squad at the 2013 All-State events this summer.

After being told about the All-State honors, “I was very excited when I found out,” McClelland said. “Making All-State was a goal I set for myself years ago, and I was more than happy when I achieved it.”

Joining McClelland on the East squad will be Bailee Johnson (Catoosa), Beth Wooters (Ponca City), Britain Drennan (Union), Callin Caldwell (Claremore), Carly Ford (Broken Arrow), Cierra Graham (Savanna), Garrett Swopes (Newkirk), Heather Currey (Bixby), Karlee Bradberry (Jenks), Kristen Spence (Cascia Hall), Lindsey Marshall (Bixby), Sarah Swanner (Collinsville), Taylor Love (Broken Arrow), Taylor Montgomery (Jenks), Taylor Thomas (Hilldale).

“Making All-State meant the world to me,” McClelland said. “It was a great accomplishment. I’m proud and thrilled to be a part of the All-State team.”

And if McClelland’s future plans pan out, the All-State football and basketball games won’t be her last events to cheer at.

“Cheerleading is something I plan to pursue in college,” said McClelland, who said she started cheering when she was four years old. “I would eventually like to be a part of the OSU cheer program.”

What do you think of Sen. McCain's proposal to allow cable TV channels to be sold a la carte (individually, rather than in bundles with a lot of channels no one wants)? Bear in mind some less popular channels could go by the wayside with no bundling support, and that while overall packages should theoretically decrease in cost, individual channels might cost more.

Strongly in favor of a la carte.
Somewhat in favor of a la carte.
Somewhat opposed to a la carte.
