The Northeastern State women's basketball team debuted at No. 9 in the NCAA Division II regional rankings on Wednesday. The RiverHawks, in the Central Region, are one spot out of qualifying for the NCAA tournament.
Atop the Central Region standings is Washburn (17-1 in-region, 17-3 overall). Central Missouri, Concordia-St. Paul, Minnesota State Mankato, Truman, Augustana (S.D.), Arkansas Tech and Southwestern Oklahoma State make up the rest of the top eight.
The NSU women have three more regular-season games and MIAA Tournament play to go to climb at least one spot in the regional rankings.
As for the NSU men, the RiverHawks are not in the top 10 in the Central Region.
Both NSU teams will play at Emporia State on Saturday.
