HULBERT – The Sequoyah Indians finished ninth in the Maverick Conference Wrestling Tournament with 48 points on Saturday.
Sequoyah’s Bluebird Linville (119 pounds) got a first-round bye then was pinned Salina’s Ty Martinez. Linville was eliminated by McLoud’s Jacob Keefover in a major decision.
Adrian Sanders got a first-round bye and then was pinned by Fort Gibson’s Brant Parker. Stilwell’s Brad Eagle pinned Sanders in the second round of consolation at 130 pounds.
Cole Guthrie had a first-round bye then was pinned by Parkview’s Andrew Williams. The seventh-place match was forfeited at 135 pounds.
Kalob Griffin had a first-round bye and received two forfeit loses at 152 pounds.
Chris Hummingbird pinned DJ Wilson, of McAlester, in the first round then pinned Keith Lacey in the second round. Hummingbird, then, lost by decision to Ethan Branham. Hummingbird pinned Lacey to reach the third-place match. He pinned Sequoyah grad, Andrew Washington, for third at 215 pounds.
Taylor Poe (heavyweight) pinned Jay’s Dylan Buske then pinned Okmulgee’s Earnest Woodruff. He was decisioned by Fort Gibson’s Colby Hyslope. The fifth-place match was forfeited.
Keys recorded 20 points and captured an 11th-place finish.
At 160 pounds, Joey Paden got a bye the was pinned by Jay’s Trey Hampton. Paden received two byes then was pinned by Hampton a second time.
Ronnie Adams got a first-round bye then was pinned by Salina’s Jake Fitsimmons. Adams pinned McAlester’s Will Derichsweiler. Fitsimmoms won by decision against Adams in the consolation semifinal at171 pounds.
Jessie Arbogast won by decision against McAlester’s Dylan Taylor then was pinned by Salina’s Logan Byrd. He lost by decision to Taylor in the consolation round at 189 pounds.
Austin Byron pinned McAlester’s Jason Billos then was pinned by Okmulgee’s Tim Moore. Byron pinned Billos and then was pinned by Hyslope, of Fort Gibson, in the third-place match placing him fourth at heavyweight.

Emily Linebarger walked out of the Oklahoma City Tennis Center unsure of her All-State prospects. The Tahlequah senior had just wrapped up her tennis career with a, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, loss to Booker T. Washington’s Audrey Still at the Class 5A state tournament.

In 1980, Karen Carter — now known as Karen Carey — became an All-State tennis player at Tahlequah High School. Thirty-two years later, her daughter has followed in her footsteps.
