NSU’s White gets MIAA soccer honor

NSU soccer briefs

Bo White has been named the MIAA Men’s Soccer Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.

The senior midfielder from Durant notched his first-career hat trick in NSU’s 4-1 victory over Sioux Falls on Sunday. He also scored the game-tying goal against Colorado Mesa in the 88th minute to force overtime on last Friday.

White has scored a conference-leading five goals through four games this season. Counting NSU’s final exhibition match, he now has nine goals in his last five contests.

White has helped the No. 21-ranked RiverHawks to a 3-1 record, and this was his first-career honor.

NSU has secured each of the first two MIAA Men’s Soccer Athlete of the Week honors handed out this season, as senior goalkeeper Jordan Ladbrooke brought home the award last week (Sept. 4).

These are the first two MIAA laurels handed out in 14 years, with the league sponsoring the sport for the first time since 1998.

Northeastern State will play its first home contest of the season on Saturday against Harding at 1 p.m.

Sordahl lands MIAA soccer honor

Northeastern State senior forward Rachel Sordahl has been named the MIAA Women’s Soccer Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.

She scored two goals, one of which proved to be the gamewinner, in NSU’s 5-0 victory over Harding University on Sunday.

Sordahl is a returning letterwinner for the RiverHawks and the leading scorer from the 2011 season. So far this season, she has seen 122 minutes of play and has averaged two goals per game.

This marks the first MIAA award to be received by NSU women’s soccer and is Sordahl’s first conference award.

Where do you think bicycle trails are most needed in Cherokee County?

In the downtown corridor.
Not downtown, because it would be too congested, but on peripheral streets, like Bluff, Downing and College, and Muskogee but not downtown.
On the rural highways mainly in recreational areas, like Highways 10 and 82.
Only in special areas, like parks.
I do not think Cherokee County needs any (or more) bike trails.
