Lady Riders rolling along

Rick Ott and his club did some celebrating on Saturday night. After all, it had been a while since the Hulbert girls had added some hardware to the trophy case.

The Lady Riders disposed of Oaks in the Greenleaf Invitational finals and won their first tournament title in three years.

“Oaks was by far the best team we’ve played so far,” said Ott, Hulbert’s coach. “They came in and were 6-0 and had beaten a very good Kiefer team earlier in the year.”

Lindsey Krueger led Hulbert with 12 points, and Allison Arnall added 10. Tiffany Thompson poured in nine points as the Lady Riders improved to 5-0.

Ott, though, told his team to relish the tournament title for a short period of time, because now he wants the Lady Riders focused on their opponent Tuesday night, Okay.

“We have to put it behind us now,” Ott said. “We have four games between now and Christmas.”

In three games in Porum, Hulbert knocked off Gore and Webbers Falls, before dispatching of Oaks. Yet, the Lady Riders still aren’t in the top 20 in Class 2A.

That’s of no concern to Ott.

“There’s a lot of good 2A ball clubs,” Ott said. “There’s a lot of other people out there who think they ought to be in the top 20, also. The only way we can get a good draw in February is by beating the teams we’re playing now.”

With each passing win, Ott can see the resolve building in his club.

“Every time we win a game, you can see their confidence level go up a bit,” Ott said. “They team concept has become very good for us.”

What do you think of Sen. McCain's proposal to allow cable TV channels to be sold a la carte (individually, rather than in bundles with a lot of channels no one wants)? Bear in mind some less popular channels could go by the wayside with no bundling support, and that while overall packages should theoretically decrease in cost, individual channels might cost more.

Strongly in favor of a la carte.
Somewhat in favor of a la carte.
