Sequoyah splits with Cascia Hall

TULSA — Class 3A No. 15 Sequoyah pulled off a season sweep of Cascia Hall, beating the Commandos 59-54 on Tuesday night.

The Indians (8-4) were led by Caisen Green, who had 14 points. Ryan Helsley chipped in with 13 points — all in the second half — for Sequoyah.

"It was a tough game," Sequoyah coach Jay Herrin said. "We came out in the third quarter and got our lead back up to nine. We had a few turnovers in the fourth to fuel their comeback.

"Ryan got all of his points in the second half and really played well. He hit some big shots and made some key free throws."

B.J. Leach added 11 points for Sequoyah, which won at Cascia Hall for the first time in five years.

With the win, Sequoyah improves to 8-4 with a road game ahead on Friday night in Henryetta. The Indians will also play Saturday at home against Keys.

In the girls game, 4A No. 5 Cascia Hall jumped out to a big lead and never relinquished it in a 55-43 victory. The Lady Commandos outscored Sequoyah (7-5) 24-2 in the first quarter and never looked back.

Lady Riders win big

CHOUTEAU — A big third quarter sent Hulbert to a 49-24 rout of Chouteau on Tuesday night.

The Lady Riders, led in the game by Tiffany Thompson's 19 points, used a 17-4 third quarter to snap a two-game losing streak.

"We played a little sluggish early," Hulbert coach Rick Ott said. "They had a pretty good defensive scheme, and they dared some of our kids to shoot the basketball. So we started running more of a spread-out-type offense. Then, in the third quarter, we got in our press a little bit, hit some 3s and blew it open pretty quick."

In the boys game, Chouteau held off Hulbert, 63-47. Mason Fielden led the Riders (8-6) with 15 points.

Both Hulbert teams will be at Vian on Friday night, with the boys playing at 6:30 p.m. and the girls to follow at 8.
