Local and area briefs

ADAIR — Keys’ run of three consecutive regional championships ended Saturday in a 59-35 loss to Sperry.

Keys will now drop to the consolation bracket in the 3A Area III tournament on Thursday.

Lady Cougars fall to Salina

ADAIR — Sydni Rainbolt and Mylee Hewitt both had 11 points, but Keys came up short in a 51-43, season-ending loss to Salina on Saturday afternoon.

Keys fell victim to poor shooting on a day when it went 16 of 54 from the floor.

The Lady Cougars end their season at 12-11, while Salina advances to next week’s area tournament in Fort Gibson.

Lady Riders ousted by Quapaw

MOUNDS — Tiffany Thompson scored 15 points, and Lindsay Krueger added 13, but Hulbert still lost 48-40 on Saturday to Quapaw.

Hulbert was outscored in the first three quarters before trying to mount a comeback with a 14-9 advantage in the final frame.

“I am really proud of my kids,” Hulbert coach Rick Ott said. “They played hard for me all year. My two seniors (Krueger and Allison Arnall) did a great job of leading all year and came to play every night.”

Quapaw advances on to the 2A area tournament in Claremore.

Riders bow out in regionals

MOUNDS — Mason Fielden scored 18 points and Parker Taylor added 17 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Hulbert boys lost 71-53 to Oklahoma Union in the regional consolation bracket at Mounds on Friday.

Craig Potts added 13 points for the Riders, who fell behind early and never could catch up being outscored 16-6 in the first quarter.

Channing Williams led Oklahoma Union with 19 points, and Kody Webb tossed in 15 points.

What do you think of Sen. McCain's proposal to allow cable TV channels to be sold a la carte (individually, rather than in bundles with a lot of channels no one wants)? Bear in mind some less popular channels could go by the wayside with no bundling support, and that while overall packages should theoretically decrease in cost, individual channels might cost more.

Strongly in favor of a la carte.
Somewhat in favor of a la carte.
Somewhat opposed to a la carte.
