Victory Christian sweeps Sequoyah out of Tulsa

TULSA — Class 4A No. 3 Victory Christian used a 15-point advantage in the second quarter to knock off 3A No. 9 Sequoyah, 64-47, on Tuesday night. Damian Parker led the Conquerors with 15 points.

For Sequoyah (12-6), Caisen Green led the way with 11 points, and B.J. Leach added 10.

After outscoring Victory Christian 13-10 in the first quarter, shot stopped falling for Sequoyah in a 19-4 second quarter in Victory Christian’s favor.

In the girls game, 4A No. 16 Victory Christian took advantage of Sequoyah’s poor shooting night to avenge a loss earlier in the season.

Bailey Bergman tallied a game-high 23 points to lead Victory Christian to a 49-39 victory.

Courtney Jones led Sequoyah with 14 points, and Audrey Ballou had 11. Loren Young chipped in with 10 points for the Lady Indians, who were outscored 24-10 in the second and third quarters after the first quarter was tied at 11.

Next up for Sequoyah will be a pair of games at Riverside on Saturday.



Cougars drop dual against Webster

PARK HILL — Keys heavyweight Frankie Walker, the Cougars’ lone senior, won easily by fall at home on Senior Night. But it wasn’t enough for Keys to beat Webster in a 36-31 dual loss on Tuesday.

Frankie Floyd (132) won by forfeit for the Cougars, and Seth Fritts (145) and Kenneth Brown (160) both won by fall. Nick Jumper (152) won by major decision, 19-11, and Seth Alsenay (220) won 10-7.

Keys, though, had to forfeit at five weights: 113, 138, 170, 182 and 195.

Next up for Keys will regional-tournament action at Berryhill on Feb. 15-16.



Tigers' next dual called off

Tahlequah was to close out its regular-season slate with a dual at Sallisaw on Thursday. But it was canceled on Tuesday.

Instead, the Tigers’ next action will be regional-tournament action at Edison on Feb. 15-16.

In its last tournament, Tahlequah had two wrestlers finish in the top two. At the Doug Rial Invitational in Pryor, Mitch Sellers won the title at 132, and Reese Davis came in second at 138.

Also for the Tigers, Chad Harlan (heavyweight) and Zech VanFleet (120) came in fifth while Tate Medlin (106) was sixth.
