Teacher who took student’s phone reports harassment

TAHLEQUAH — Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies spoke with a local high school teacher recently after she was harassed by a student and his brother.

The teacher said she took a 14-year-old student’s cell phone last Friday because the boy had the phone out during class, which is a violation of school policy. The phone was later given to the school’s principal. The student was upset he could not get his phone back and wouldn’t have it all weekend, and the teacher said the student and his 17-year-old brother later drove by her house several times. They then pounded on her door several times, and called her and made intimidating remarks, deputies said. The teacher later discovered the boys had spray-painted “Phone?” in red paint on her house.

In other matters, deputies spoke with a woman Wednesday who said she was scammed out of more than $700. The woman said she took out a short-term loan in Tahlequah in 2008 and later defaulted on the loan. The debt was eventually sold to several other companies, and she was able to pay off the loan in full. But the woman said another company later contacted her and asked for credit card information to take care of the balance of her debt – and the company then took the $700 out of her account.

Marlee Freeman spoke to deputies Wednesday about being harassed during the night by a former boyfriend and his wife.

Jack Smithson filed a report this week about dozens of brass sprinkler heads being taken from the system at Tri B Nursery.

Vehicle reported stolen
A Locust Grove woman spoke to sheriff’s deputies June 13 to report that her inoperable vehicle had been stolen. Willa Blakely said her 1992 blue Chevy four-door Cavalier, which has a taped driver-side headlight, broke down on East 626 Road. It was gone when she returned two days later to retrieve the vehicle.
