Woman reports men were caught taking property

TAHLEQUAH — A Cherokee County woman spoke to sheriff’s deputies Monday after two men were caught taking her family’s belongings.

Velna Vanbuskirk’s home previously caught fire and burned, and the Cherokee Nation is assisting in demolition of the remaining structure, according to deputies. Two men were recently spotted loading some of Vanbuskirk’s property into two trucks, and when questioned, they claimed they had been contracted by the tribe, but Vanbuskirk said the contract has not been awarded. When the men were confronted, one of them threatened Vanbuskirk’s son, and the suspects left with some of the property.

Deputies spoke to David Cummings this week about aggressive dogs. Cummings told deputies that neighbor dogs are biting at his feet when he goes to his car, and have done so for several years.

Thomas Ballard spoke to deputies Monday about being threatened.

Justin Garrett reported threats earlier this month.

Dale Fentress reported a home burglary Monday. A window was broken, and several items were taken, including a wood stove, kerosene heater, an oak gun cabinet, two circular saws, a ceramic tile cutter, a Snapper riding lawn mower, three push mowers, several boxes of household items, and other tools.

Matthew Miller spoke to county deputies Monday about his AR-15 firearm being taken.

Ronald Jordon reported theft of medication this week.

What do you think of Sen. McCain's proposal to allow cable TV channels to be sold a la carte (individually, rather than in bundles with a lot of channels no one wants)? Bear in mind some less popular channels could go by the wayside with no bundling support, and that while overall packages should theoretically decrease in cost, individual channels might cost more.

Strongly in favor of a la carte.
Somewhat in favor of a la carte.
