Jay woman arrested for public intoxication

TAHLEQUAH — A Jay woman was arrested for public intoxication by sheriff’s deputies Dec. 1 following response to a prowler call near Peggs. Evelyn Ryder, 46, told deputies she was driving from Locust Grove when her car broke down. While speaking with Ryder, the deputy detected the odor of alcohol and requested she participate in a sobriety test, to which she consented. A 12-pack carton of Bud Light containing five unopened cans was in the back seat, along with a half-empty pint of whiskey.

Paul Balenti filed a theft report Dec. 3 to notify deputies an unknown suspect removed his log splitter from his Ranger Creek Road property on State Highway 80 Nov. 29. A two-wheel dolly was also reported missing. The log splitter is red and black and is valued at $1,172.

Tim Cline on  Dec. 3 reported illegal dumping near his Hulbert residence. Cline said he has had problems with hunters and other trespassers in the past and monitors unfamiliar vehicles. Cline observed a red F-150 pickup loaded with what looked like plywood furniture on the road near his property. The next morning, he found what appeared to be the plywood furniture dumped on the roadway near his property.

Rian Smith told deputies Dec. 3 that a neighbor who had recently moved left behind an unchained dog. The female healer mix had been on the Park Hill property for about a week. Smith took the dog next door and spoke to an individual working on a vehicle. That person helped Smith establish contact with the previous neighbor, who said the dog would be retrieved, but that has not happened.

Gary Fisher filed a theft report Dec. 3 to declare his Mercury boat motor missing from his Moodys property. The 1996 model Mercury motor, which was valued at $200, was taken between Nov. 28 and 29. Neighbors notified Fisher that his cows were out and a gate on his property was standing open, with evidence that the lock and chain on the gate had been cut. Fisher provided law officials with the motor’s model and serial number.

Timothy Peevy filed a domestic assault and battery report Dec. 3, saying a suspect slapped him while he was holding his baby. Peevy said he was putting his children to sleep when the incident occurred. The suspect was trying to leave with the infant when Peevy told another relative to dial 911. The suspect knocked the phone out of the relative’s hand, but Peevy retrieved it and completed the call.

Rodney McClure told deputies Dec. 3 a known suspect threatened acts of violence during a telephone conversation. According to the report, a relative of McClure’s was talking to the suspect, who was being very rude. McClure said he picked up the phone to intervene and the suspect made negative comments toward another relative of McClure’s. McClure said the suspect threatened him when McClure verbally defended his relatives.

What do you think of Sen. McCain's proposal to allow cable TV channels to be sold a la carte (individually, rather than in bundles with a lot of channels no one wants)? Bear in mind some less popular channels could go by the wayside with no bundling support, and that while overall packages should theoretically decrease in cost, individual channels might cost more.

Strongly in favor of a la carte.
Somewhat in favor of a la carte.
