Deputies log DUI arrests over holiday

TAHLEQUAH — Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies logged several alcohol-related arrests in the days leading up to Christmas.

A 17-year-old Peggs teen was stopped when deputies saw him driving north in the south-bound lane of State Highway 82 Friday. The teen had a blood-alcohol content of .15, nearly twice the legal limit.

In other matters, deputies arrested Julia M. Byrd, 21, of Tulsa, for driving under the influence and possession of drug paraphernalia Sunday. Byrd was pulled over for allegedly failing to stop at a stop sign. She admitted to deputies she had consumed four beers and a shot of Jack Daniels, deputies said. Byrd had a blood-alcohol content of .08. During inventory of her vehicle, deputies allegedly found a smoking pipe.

Deputies arrested Violisa L. Russell, 53, of Tahlequah, for DUI Saturday.

Amy Faye Silcox, 41, of Tahlequah, was arrested this week for domestic assault and battery and domestic assault and battery in the presence of a minor. Silcox allegedly assaulted a man while they were together in a car, and later assaulted a woman at a residence.

Mary Hernandez spoke to deputies after she was threatened by a woman on Christmas Eve.

Joseph Caviness filed a report last Friday after his vehicle was stolen. Caviness said the vehicle was picked up by a wrecker service at the request of an unidentified woman, and was taken to a local scrap yard.

Peggy Catron filed a report Friday about her cell phone being taken from the courthouse.

Trae Clouse reported being pushed Sunday during a family argument.

What do you think of Sen. McCain's proposal to allow cable TV channels to be sold a la carte (individually, rather than in bundles with a lot of channels no one wants)? Bear in mind some less popular channels could go by the wayside with no bundling support, and that while overall packages should theoretically decrease in cost, individual channels might cost more.

Strongly in favor of a la carte.
