Gladyce Elizabeth Carlson Hansen

TAHLEQUAH – Gladyce E. Hansen was born Sept. 29, 1912, in Odebolt, Iowa, to David and Anna Carlson. She passed away Feb. 10, 2008, at Go Ye Village Medical Center in Tahlequah. She was 95 years old.

Services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Early, Iowa, at a later date. The care of Gladyce and her family have been entrusted to Hart Funeral Home of Tahlequah.

Gladyce graduated from Odeboh High School in 1929. Her sisters were Rang Holtapp and Feme Plater, and she had one brother, Joseph Carlson. They have all preceded her in death.

Gladyce married Marvin G. Hansen on July 27, 1936. To this union was born one child, Daniel L. Hansen, on Sept. 16, 1938.

Dr. Dan Hansen was a professor of mathematics at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah for 30 years. Dan passed away on March 18, 2001.

Marvin and Gladyce Hansen were charter members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Odebolt, Iowa, and also charter members of Faith Lutheran Church in Early, Iowa.

Gladyce and her husband moved from Early, Iowa, to Storm Lake, Iowa, in July of 1990, and became members of St. John Lutheran. In January of 1997, they moved to Go Ye Village in Tahlequah, and became members of the First Lutheran Church of Tahlequah.

Marvin and Gladyce were married 63 years, and enjoyed many wonderful trips together. They were model parents and grandparents and blessed with many friends.

Over 500 people attended their 50th wedding anniversary celebration at the Spring Lake Golf and Country Club near Early, Iowa.

Gladyce was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 60 years. She held many offices on both the county and local levels. She was also a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League for over 60 years.

While living in Early, Iowa, Gladyce worked in the insurance business and for an attorney in Odebolt, Iowa. Over the years, Gladyce’s friends felt free to go to her with their problems because

Gladyce had proved herself to be a trusted confidant. Her reputation as a great cook and wonderful hostess was known by so many. She was wise beyond words. Gladyce always enjoyed and looked forward to giving an annual Christmas party in their home.

Gladyce is survived by her daughter-in-law, Jane Hansen, of Tahlequah; a grandson, Dr. Doug Hansen, and his wife, Sherri, of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; and a granddaughter, Heather Hansen Lyell, and her husband, Sean, of Lake Oswego, Ore.; and four great-grandchildren, Sarah Avery Lyell, Akio Karl Hansen, Abigail Jane Lyell, and Miya Jessie Hansen.

She is also survived by Lorraine Strong, a niece from Des Moines, Iowa; David Holtapp, a nephew from Pomeroy, Iowa; and Lynne Wieder Lovejoy, a great-niece from Littleton, Colo. Her husband, Marvin, passed away on Dec. 13, 1998.
