TAHLEQUAH – Michael Nathaniel Kidd, 50, of Tahlequah, died Friday, Feb. 24, at Clarehouse Hospice in Tulsa. A memorial service will be held at Reed-Culver Funeral Home in Tahlequah on Saturday, March 11, at 2 p.m.

Michael was born in Tulsa on April 30, 1955, at Hillcrest Medical Center to Harold and Betty Kidd. His family moved to Titusville, Fla., in 1957, where his father was employed by Douglas Aircraft and later with Martin Marietta.

Michael’s love of music was evident throughout his life. He attended Astronaut High School in Titusville, Fla., and was a member of the high school band and the Peacemakers, a song and dance group. Later, he achieved a position with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra playing French horn. He enjoyed singing and playing a variety of musical instruments including guitar, French horn, trumpet and piano. Over the years, he also served in various positions in church musical groups and programs.

Michael enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1976 and received basic training at Lackland Air Force Base. While on leave in Texas, he met and married Patricia Schlagel. They had a daughter, Kimberlee, and a son, Kevin. During his U.S. Air Force career, Michael served at Incerlik Air Force Base in Turkey, Pope Air Force Base in South Carolina, Clark Air Force Base in the Phillipines and his last duty station of Minot, N.D. While at Incerlik Air Force Base in Turkey, he appeared in Tops In Blue, a prestigious musical and drama event for the Air Force, and competed in the finals in Germany. After his military career, he returned to Titusville, Fla.

Michael met Rebecca Wingfield in 1990, and they were married in Titusville, Fla., on June 11, 1992. They moved to Tahlequah in 2001, where he was known for his ever-present hat and his love of fishing. He had been a member of Westside Baptist Church in Titusville, Fla., from childhood and was an active member of the Church of the Nazarene in Tahlequah.

Michael is survived by his wife, Rebecca Lynne Kidd; his children, Kimberlee Summers and Kevin Michael Kidd; and his step-children, Brent Allen Wingfield and Melissa Nichole Wingfield. He is also survived by his mother, Betty Lou Kidd; his sisters, Melissa Sue Turner and Kelly Lee Steege; his brother, Kristopher Guy Kidd; and a host of extended family, friends and loved ones.
