Basil Davis Green

TAHLEQUAH — Basil Davis Green, 92, of Tahlequah, passed away Feb. 16, 2013, at Go Ye Village Retirement Community. He was born March 13, 1920, in Helena, to Frank and Hattie Green.

Basil was the youngest of eight children, and spent most of his growing up years in and around Enid, Oklahoma. One of his first jobs was that of a delivery boy for Western Union. He met Sibyl Irene Porter at church camp, and they were married Feb. 20, 1943, before he departed to serve in the Army Air Corps in World War II. He flew transport air craft and was a flight instructor during his active duty. Were you to ask Basil to share a story of an important event in his life, it would either be about meeting and marrying Sibyl or the thrill of flying a C-47.

Basil was a Christian man every day of the week. He was active in the First Methodist Church wherever he lived. He served on his church’s administrative boards, sang and directed the choir, and was an outstanding junior high Sunday school teacher. He and Sibyl received the Angelaity Award from the Oklahoma Methodist Conference in 2004.

Basil worked for Ford Motor Company as Parts Manager in Cushing and then in Muskogee, Oklahoma, until he retired. His sports teams of choice were Oklahoma State University and the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved playing pool with friends and family.

Basil was preceded in death by his wife, Sibyl; a grandson, James Dison; and seven brothers and sisters. He is survived by his two daughters and their husbands, ZoeLinda and Fred Green of Nacogdoches, Texas, and Nancy and Dan Robertson of Tulsa; grandchildren, Dallas Robertson, Cicely Zweifel and Julie Dison; great-grandchildren, Grace Robertson, Anya Robertson and Jessica Dison; and a great-great-grandchild, Lakota Dison.

Services will be Friday, Feb. 22, at 10 a.m., at Go Ye Village Chapel in Tahlequah. Interment will follow in Fort Gibson National Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to The Go Ye Village Assistance Society, 1201 W. Fourth Street, Tahlequah, OK 74464.

Funeral service arrangements are under the direction of Foster-Petering Funeral Home. Condolences to the family may be made at www.  foster-petering.com.

Poll

Where do you think bicycle trails are most needed in Cherokee County?

In the downtown corridor.
Not downtown, because it would be too congested, but on peripheral streets, like Bluff, Downing and College, and Muskogee but not downtown.
On the rural highways mainly in recreational areas, like Highways 10 and 82.
Only in special areas, like parks.
I do not think Cherokee County needs any (or more) bike trails.
