Born Feb. 28, 1944 in Morenci, Ariz., to Woody E. Berry and Pearl (Fletcher) Berry, Solomon Wade Berry passed away from cancer on Feb. 4, 2013.
He is survived by his children, Douglas Berry (Lisa) and Kristi Crunkleton (Daniel), both of Broken Arrow; granddaughter, Sarah Crunkleton and an expected grandson; long time best friend, Pam Thomas of Tahlequah, and her children; Sue Berry; and his three faithful dogs; sisters, Louise Chewning (Bill) of Prescott, Ariz., Silvia Lee Mason of Tulsa; brothers, Thomas Lloyd Berry (Frances) of Wann, Harold Berry (JoAnn) of Locust Grove, and Carrol “Casey” Berry (Cheryl) of Prescott, Ariz.; plus many special nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
His family moved to Oklahoma when he was a few years old. He attended school at Stone Chapel and graduated from Tahlequah High School in 1963.
He served in the National Guard, where he earned several medals.
He was employed at Muskogee Iron Works, then worked as a carpenter for different contractors besides being self-employed.
He liked to coon hunt, deer hunt and fish. Pa-Pa enjoyed spending time with granddaughter Sarah and other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, LaVerne Bridges; brothers, Wilson Edward Berry, Dave Benson Berry and Jackie Berry; as well as a special niece, Audrey “Jinx” Bridges.
He attended Faith Chapel Church and helped build the sanctuary.
The family would like to give special thanks to Pam Thomas and family, Professional Home Hospice, pastors Robert Long and Dennis Hall, and good friends, Tommy and Wanda Speake.
Cremation is through Kennedy Funeral Home and Crematory in Broken Arrow.
Honorary pallbearers are: Tommy Speake, Kenny Adams and Charlie Beck.
A memorial service will be held at Faith Chapel Church in Moodys, located at 12145 State Highway 82A, Saturday, Feb. 9, at 1 p.m.
