Shirley Annette Fisher was born on April 12, 1941, in Tahlequah, the daughter of John and Pearl Lucille (Vogel) Rabbit.

Upon completing school, Shirley married and devoted her time to her children. She worked for the Cherokee Nation as a community liaison, a job she enjoyed immensely.

She married Richard Fisher on Oct. 16, 1978, in Miami, Okla. Together, they owned and operated the Fisher Bulk Milk Trucking Co.

Whenever she had spare time, Shirley enjoyed watching golf, especially her idol Tiger Woods.

She did her own upholstery and worked tirelessly on the family genealogy, archiving facts. She possessed a green thumb and raised beautiful roses for her family to enjoy.

Shirley was a woman of compassion and strength. She was always ready to help those in need, yet teaching her children the importance of being self-reliant. She gave of her time and attention and never asked for anything for herself.

She was very proud of her children and grandchildren and their many accomplishments. She was happy to spend an afternoon doing arts and craft work with her grandchildren.

A Christian by faith, Shirley attended services at Blue Springs and Four Corners Church.

The Lord called Shirley home from her labors on Nov. 17, 2012, in Oklahoma City. She was 71 years old. She will be missed for all the love she shared by her family and many friends.

Shirley is preceded in death by her father; and her husband, Richard Fisher in 2007.

Poll

What do you think of Sen. McCain's proposal to allow cable TV channels to be sold a la carte (individually, rather than in bundles with a lot of channels no one wants)? Bear in mind some less popular channels could go by the wayside with no bundling support, and that while overall packages should theoretically decrease in cost, individual channels might cost more.

Strongly in favor of a la carte.
Somewhat in favor of a la carte.
Somewhat opposed to a la carte.
