Castiello, Shelton sign with NSU

Northeastern State women’s golf coach Scott Varner has received national letters of intent from two incoming freshman, he announced today.

The two additions to the program are Sofia Castiello (Guadalajara, Mexico) and Gabbi Shelton (Stillwater).

Castiello is also taught by Rafael Alarcon, who is a high school friend of Varner’s and a two-time All-American at Oklahoma State.

Castiello attended the IMG David Leadbetter Golf Academy in Florida. Her low tournament rounds are 67-70, and they both came this past fall. She consistently shoots in the mid- to low-70’s and is currently ranked No. 3 on the Mexican Junior Golf Association Tour.

Shelton has played on the No. 1 bag at Stillwater High School and has shown quality potential this past year.

She works out of Stillwater Country Club, which is the club Varner came through as a state champion in 1980.

Varner adds 3 NSU men’s golf

Northeastern State men’s golf coach Scott Varner has announced the signing of three to the 2013-14 class.

Varner has added Tyler Green (Benton, Ark.), Marc Johnson (Plano, Texas) and Tate Willamson (Broken Arrow) to the RiverHawk program.

“I really like this class,” Varner said. “These three athletes have exceptional talent and are great character kids. I’m really excited to get them on campus.”

Below are full bios on the newcomers for the 2013-14 season.

Where do you think bicycle trails are most needed in Cherokee County?

In the downtown corridor.
Not downtown, because it would be too congested, but on peripheral streets, like Bluff, Downing and College, and Muskogee but not downtown.
On the rural highways mainly in recreational areas, like Highways 10 and 82.
Only in special areas, like parks.
I do not think Cherokee County needs any (or more) bike trails.
