The Northeastern State women’s basketball team is set to close out a three-game road stint in Edmond. The RiverHawks (9-5, 4-2 MIAA) will face Central Oklahoma (8-6, 1-5 MIAA) at 5:30 tonight inside Hamilton Field House.
NSU and UCO have met 30 times in the Randy Gipson era (since 1999), and the RiverHawks own a 20-10 record in that time frame. The green and white took three of four meetings a year ago and owns a 7-3 mark in the last 10 matchups.
UCO’s lone conference win came Dec. 6 at Pittsburg State (70-62). Since then, the team has dropped league contests to Southwest Baptist (75-71), Missouri Western State (78-76), Washburn (62-58), Truman State (72-39), and Lindenwood (81-77). Alyssa Fuxa leads the Bronchos in scoring (12.9 points per game) and is second in rebounding (6.1).
Six members of the Northeastern State women’s basketball are currently averaging at least 4.5 points per game, with five being upperclassmen. Leading the way for NSU is senior guard Taylor Lewis, who is averaging 15.4 points per game and 2.4 rebounds. Not far behind is fellow senior guard Tosha Tyler and her 11.8 points per contest and 3.2 rebounds.
In the men’s game, NSU (10-4, 3-3) will take on a Broncho team that is 6-8 and 4-2. The game will tip at 7:30.
Central Oklahoma is on a three-game win streak and has won five of its last seven contests. Josh Gibbs leads the Bronchos in scoring and rebounding at 15.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Spencer Smith is second in both categories with averages of 12.9 points and 5.7 rebounds.
NSU and UCO have met 33 times since Larry Gipson took over the helm of the RiverHawk program in 1997, and the Bronchos hold a narrow 17-16 margin over that span.
