Citizen tip leads to drug arrest

By BOB GIBBINS

Cherokee County sheriff’s investigators acting on a tip arrested a local man Tuesday afternoon for endeavoring to manufacture a controlled drug.

Ricky Wayne Griggs, 42, was book- ed into the county detention center after being arrested at his residence.

Investigators said the sheriff’s office received information about possible drug activity at the location and went to the residence.

They said Griggs gave deputies consent to search the residence and an ice chest was found containing the elements of a “shake and bake” methamphetamine lab.

The “shake and bake” method allows a meth manufacturer to make meth in one sealed container and generally produces methamphetamine in a smaller quantity than other methods.

Online sources indicate the method can be performed while driving down the road in a car.

Some methamphetamine residue was also found at the residence.

Griggs has multiple drug convictions in Cherokee County and is on probation here until January 2012.

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation personnel came to the scene to dispose of the lab equipment.

Formal charges are expected to be filed in district court against Griggs.
