Man accused of robbery, attempted kidnapping

TAHLEQUAH — Police arrested a man Sunday night after he allegedly forced his way into a home with a gun, robbed a woman and attempted to kidnap her.

Jesus Cerda, 38, was held on anticipated charges of first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, attempted kidnapping, and transporting a loaded firearm.

Tahlequah Police Patrolman Shawn Presley said officers were called to the 200 block of Wilson at around 9:30 p.m. Sunday. Cerda had left the scene in a vehicle before police arrived.

The victim told police Cerda entered her home uninvited, pointed a gun at her and took her cell phone. He then allegedly tried to force her to go to Tulsa to find Cerda’s estranged wife, but the victim began screaming, and Cerda gave up on forcing her to go, Presley said.

Officers were given a vehicle description and later spotted Cerda driving south on State Highway 82. He was eventually taken into custody in the Park Hill area, and Presley said two firearms and the victim’s cell phone were recovered inside Cerda’s vehicle. The victim was not injured during the incident, Presley said.

Cerda was given a $30,000 and was released from the Cherokee County Detention Center Monday morning.

Presley said he was assisted by Tahlequah Patrolman David Craig, Sgt. Jason Girdner, Detective Chris Boals, and Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Tommy Mullins.
