Business owners today can no longer solely depend on traditional advertising sources to increase awareness of their products or services.
Predictions indicate that by 2015, everyone on the planet will have access to a mobile device. Use of the Internet to research products or services has increased dramatically in the past few years, and even more people are expected to use a smartphone, tablet or laptop to finalize a purchase or conduct research on things like purchasing automobiles, homes, or various technology-based items.
To help people who are considering starting a business or business owners who need to increase their online presence, the Web search engine company or data center known as Google conducts training workshops on “Growing Your Business Online” and “Building Your Free Website.” The sessions help individuals learn how to use Google applications to expand their customer bases and awareness of their products or services.
A representative from the Google Data Center in Pryor was on hand for Wednesday’s training, held at the Tahlequah Municipal Armory Center.
“It will help people who don’t have a web presence to actually get a web presence and get online. For people who already have a web presence, it’s a way to grow their business and utilize the tools that Google offers,” said Google Operations Manager Mike Wooten. “We also talk about other ways to use the tools Google offers to grow your business and reach customers. We have people who have gone through this training who are now doing 50 to 60 percent of their business online. It’s really effective.”
The $25 per-person seminar, which was attended by a group of 35 to 40 private individuals and business owners, was hosted by the Tahlequah Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Tahlequah Main Street Association.
Chamber Executive Director David Moore said people attending the morning workshop were looking to enhance their online profiles using applications provided by the Web’s leading search engine.
“Google is the most used tool on the Internet,” said Moore. “It’s ideal that the company has an outlet in Pryor and offers this training for our folks to take advantage of the most-used tool in the country, in the world.”
