TAHLEQUAH —
A Peggs woman was arrested Wednesday on drug- and child-endangerment charges after Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies were called to investigate what was initially described as a kidnapping incident.
Deputy Michael Cates was sent to South 460 Road after Kasie Eve Kizzia, 27, allegedly took her two children away from the children’s grandmother, who had legal custody of them.
Cates said he went to Kizzia’s residence and spoke with Kizzia’s mother and aunt. The aunt told Cates Kizzia had also stolen several items from them the previous day.
When deputies went inside Kizzia’s residence to speak with her, they noticed a smoking pipe on the kitchen table. Deputies were given consent to search the rest of the house and found another pipe in a cabinet near the kitchen table.
Cates said some of the stolen items were found beneath a bed inside the house, and deputies also found three bags of a white, powdery substance; a green container with a white, crystal-like substance; two syringes, one of which was loaded with a clear substance; eight white pills; and a bag of a green, leafy substance.
There were also several smoking pipes and spoons with a white, powdery substance, Cates said.
Deputies then searched a bathroom and found a box with several syringes, a spoon, and a pipe. A bag of a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana was found on a dresser in a bedroom, along with three digital scales.
Kizzia was arrested at the scene for possession with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, knowingly concealing stolen property, endeavoring to inhale intoxicants, and child endangerment.
Cates said Kizzia was booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center, and officers then found three small straws in her possession. The straws had a powdery residue on them, Cates said.
Kizzia was also allegedly in possession of a small vial containing a white, powdery residue.
