TAHLEQUAH —
A Hulbert man was jailed late last week after an alleged assault led to the discovery of marijuana plants and seeds.
Ernest F. Pigg Jr., 38, was held at the Cherokee County Detention Center on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, cultivation of marijuana, domestic assault and battery in the presence of a minor, domestic assault and battery on a minor, and resisting arrest.
Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Cates was dispatched to North Lost City Road Friday for a domestic situation. The female victim told Cates that Pigg woke her and demanded she give him some of her prescription medications, but she refused.
Pigg allegedly grabbed his gun, went outside the house and fired shots at the residence, which was still occupied by the woman and her son. He later went back into the house and asked the woman for money, which she also refused.
Deputies said Pigg then left and the victims began to gather some of their things to leave. The victim told deputies Pigg later drove up in his vehicle, hit a dog, then blocked the road and pointed his gun at his chin. The woman and her son reportedly began to run; Pigg, meanwhile, drove his vehicle into a ditch, where it became stuck.
The victims said Pigg later caught up to them and started to hit the female victim’s son. The son later took Pigg to the ground and held him there while his mother was able to run to a nearby house and call for deputies.
Cates said authorities found Pigg at a nearby residence and took him into custody.
Deputies said they came upon potted plants that appeared to be marijuana, and also founds several bags of a green, leafy substance, along with two packages of seeds and a scale.
