Commissioners approve bid for auctioneer

TAHLEQUAH — Cherokee County commissioners unanimously approved selection of an auctioneer for an upcoming gun auction.

The sheriff’s office sought bids from those interested in serving as auctioneer for a public gun auction, set for Aug. 6.

T-5 Auction, Joe Trammel, will be the auctioneer. His bid of doing the auction for 8 percent of the revenue from the auction was less than the other three bidders. Triple A, Kenny Adams, submitted a 9.7 percent bid. J.R.’s Country Auction and Chupp’s Auction Co. each submitted 15 percent bids.

The commissioners also voted to allow the sheriff’s office to seek $13,425 in Bureau of Justice grant funds.

Administrative Assistant Lesa Rousey told the commissioners the money, if received, would be used to purchase equipment for vehicles.

An equitable sharing agreement and certification with the Department of Justice was also approved on the sheriff’s office’s recommendation. Rousey said the agreement allows the sheriff’s office to share seized property with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

A resolution pertaining to Cherokee County Election Board employees was also approved.

Election Board Secretary Connie Parnell said the auditor’s office said the resolution is needed in case employees work longer than eight hours on election days for entities other than the county or state. She said the employees must be paid overtime, but she has been able to stagger work hours on election days.

Monthly reports were approved for the court clerk, county clerk, election board, county treasurer, detention center, county assessor, sheriff’s department and the health department.

What’s next

The next regular meeting of the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners will be Monday, Aug. 1 at 9 a.m. in the second-floor conference room at the Cherokee County Courthouse.
