Authorities are still asking for the public’s help in identifying the person who robbed a Cherokee County convenience store at gunpoint on Dec. 19.
Cherokee County Undersheriff Jason Chennault said investigators have received a few phone calls about the case, but authorities are still asking anyone who knows anything about the robbery to call the sheriff’s office.
Deputies responded to Speedy’s 66, at the corner of State Highway 51 and Welling Road, just before 11 p.m. Dec. 19 to check a silent alarm.
A store employee told deputies he was approached by an unknown male subject who was wearing a hooded shirt and a mask while holding what appeared to be a silver .38-caliber revolver.
The employee had left the store to get an item from his vehicle, and said the suspect walked up on him and told him not to do “anything f-----g stupid.” The suspect then took the employee back inside the store, ordered him to turn off all of the lights, and then to empty the store’s cash register and safe into a garbage bag.
Authorities said the suspect then ordered the employee to get into a freezer and stay there for 20 minutes, or he would be “dead.” The employee later left the freezer, crawled to the register and triggered the silent alarm.
Investigators have received surveillance footage showing the robbery and the suspect, who was completely covered with clothing except for his eyes.
