Races develop for several city office posts

TAHLEQUAH — Races began developing Monday for several of the city’s elected positions that will be up for grabs in February.

Four entered the race to be the city’s chief of police, including incumbent Clay Mahaney and challengers Nate King, Stephen Farmer and Charley Batt.

For the city council Ward 2 seat, Gary Cacy and Jonathan Wells both filed their declarations of candidacy, though incumbent Jack Spears has not filed to seek re-election.

Diane Weston, the incumbent for the city council Ward 1 seat, filed to seek election and drew no opponents.

City Treasurer Lanny Williams formally filed his intent to seek re-election and, as of Monday, had drawn no opponents.

Street Commissioner Mike Corn filed his notice to seek re-election and drew a challenge from Terry Garrett.

For the city clerk position, incumbent Deb Corn filed on Monday and had drawn no opponent.

Candidates for city offices must file by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, and pay the accompanying $200 fee. Filings must be made at Tahlequah City Hall, in the city clerk’s office. After Wednesday’s deadline, candidates will draw for ballot positioning.

The city election will be held Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, with an April 2 runoff if necessary.

What do you think of Sen. McCain's proposal to allow cable TV channels to be sold a la carte (individually, rather than in bundles with a lot of channels no one wants)? Bear in mind some less popular channels could go by the wayside with no bundling support, and that while overall packages should theoretically decrease in cost, individual channels might cost more.
