Less than a week after a Cherokee County man was charged with performing a lewd act in the presence of a minor, his wife has been charged with enabling child sex abuse and failure to report child abuse.
Court records show Jane Stanley, 52, was charged Thursday with the two counts, which carry possible life prison terms, if she is convicted.
A 12-year-old girl is the alleged victim in the case.
Hubbard Stanley was charged Feb. 5 with performing lewd acts in the presence of a minor.
On Thursday, a second count of child sexual abuse was added to the count against him.
Jane is charged with allowing Hubbard to be alone with the girl on Oct. 29 and to care for her when she knew, or should have known, the girl was in risk of sexual abuse.
The second count charges her with failing to report the abuse to the Department of Human Services. Hubbard has been released on a $15,000 bond and faces a March 22 court appearance before Special District Judge Holli Wells.
Jane’s charges also carry a possible fine of $500 to $5,000.
Assistant District Attorney B.J. Baker is prosecuting both cases.
