Man jailed for firing pistol at another

A Tahlequah man was jailed Thursday morning after firing a pistol in the direction of another man during a dispute.

TPD Detective Jeff Haney said David Ortiz was booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center for assault with a deadly weapon and feloniously pointing a firearm. An offense report was being prepared Thursday afternoon.

Haney said a single shot was reportedly fired in the direction of the victim at 224 W. Arden.

The intended victim was not hit, but he did go to the hospital for a situation unrelated to the shooting.

Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies found Ortiz, whom they transported to the TPD detectives office. He was later placed under arrest.

Haney said sheriff’s deputies also helped locate the weapon used in the incident, a .22-caliber revolver.

Formal charges are expected to be filed in district court against Ortiz.
