TAHLEQUAH —
Cherokee County on Monday was blanketed with a layer of snow that caused several area school cancellations.
By 8 a.m. Monday, areas around Tahlequah had received approximately 2 inches of snow, according to observations by the National Weather Service in Tulsa. Between 1 and 2:30 p.m., the area received just more than 1/10 of an inch of other measurable precipitation.
Roads in and around Tahlequah remained wet and mushy for much of Monday, and slick in spots around the county. Temperatures also rose to just above freezing.
The NWS forecast called for the possibility of drizzle early Tuesday morning with temperatures dipping below 30. Temperatures on Tuesday are expected to reach into the 50s, with a chance of rain Tuesday night and the possibility of thunderstorms Wednesday. High temperatures Tuesday-Sunday are expected to be in the mid 50s to lower 60s.
Monday’s wintry weather brought Cherokee County’s first measurable snowfall of the winter – hardly a comparison to the series of snow storms that brought record-breaking snowfall to the area one year ago.
