TAHLEQUAH —
Kristene Scraper recently announced her candidacy for the position of secretary for the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians of Oklahoma, as a resident of the Tahlequah district.
Scraper, the daughter of Eda and Junior Scraper of Welling, has five siblings.
“That has given me first-hand experience generating cooperative partnerships and compromises with others,” she said.
She has mothered three daughters: Heather Smith, the late “Darci” Lynn Scraper and Sherniec Scraper.
Scraper has an associate’s degree in business management, and a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She will pursue a master’s degree in business administration in the spring.
“First and foremost, as the UKB secretary, I will ensure that every UKB member can rely on accountability and transparency,” she said.
Scraper will look to maintain accurate UKB tribal registration records, current contact information for all tribal members, preservation of the accurate account of each council meeting, and advocate for records disclosure.
