TAHLEQUAH —
Christopher Yocum remained silent Thursday as a judge formally determined he would spend six years in prison for committing lewd acts to a 10-year-old girl.
District Judge Darrell Shepherd offered Yocum, 28, the chance to make a statement during his formal sentencing, but Yocum declined.
Assistant District Attorney Marena Doolittle, who prosecuted Yocum and represented the state during his January trial, told Shepherd that Yocum should serve both of his three-year sentences consecutively, rather than at the same time.
Doolittle said Yocum’s lewd acts against the girl, whom he raised as his daughter, have had a lasting impact.
Angela Jones, who represented Yocum, asked the judge to allow Yocum to serve his two sentences at the same time, and to give him credit for time already served.
Shepherd decided Yocum will serve a total of six years in prison, with credit for the nearly one year of time served in jail.
The judge also ordered post-imprisonment community supervision for three years after he is released. Yocum, when released from prison, will be required to register as a sex offender.
Yocum was arrested in April 2012 when he was accused of placing the girl’s hand on his genitals on two different occasions.
