The Tahlequah Public Works Authority addressed a concern about the failure of a water test sample that caused notices to be sent to utility customers during the regular meeting Friday morning.
“We found and corrected the problem through a re-test,” said Stan Day, board member.
“We believe it was a contaminated sample. We were arguing with [the Department of Environmental Quality] on the interpretation of the rule, and we conceded and sent the notice.”
The water is fine, it turns out the sample was taken from a site with a dirty faucet.
Day said TPWA workers cleaned the faucet with a wire brush and bleach and obtained a good sample then.
“It was a non-emergency situation that’s why they waited from September to December,” he said.
In other business, board member, Isabel Baker said she would like to see the janitorial service used to clean the TPWA buildings come from Tahlequah.
Day said in fact they plan on taking bids soon for a new janitorial service.
“We aren’t happy with the one we have,” he said.
Baker said she would like to see the money stay in Tahlequah, and not in Tulsa, the city the current janitorial service is based out of.
“I think it’s important to keep that money local,” she said.
