TAHLEQUAH —
A Cherokee County homeowner shot and injured a man who apparently broke into his house Thursday morning.
Cherokee County Undersheriff Jason Chennault said deputies are not yet releasing the names of the homeowner or the alleged burglar.
Chennault said the homeowner arrived at his house, near Chicken Creek, and found a man inside burglarizing his home. The homeowner located his rifle inside the home and confronted the alleged burglar.
Three shots were fired during their confrontation. Chennault said the burglar was hit by two of the shots, both in the upper body.
The injured man was later flown by medical helicopter to a Tulsa hospital. Chennault said the homeowner has not been arrested.
Following an investigation, a full report will be submitted to the District Attorney’s Office, Chennault said.
