TAHLEQUAH —
Cherokee County prosecutors charged an NSU football player Thursday with aggravated DUI and threatening to perform an act of violence.
Court records show Donald Dangerfield, 22, was formally charged with the misdemeanor offenses stemming from an Aug. 28 arrest by Tahlequah police.
Dangerfield, of Hugo, is listed as a linebacker on the NSU Athletics website.
Authorities say that when Officer Brandon Vick arrested Dangerfield on Morgan Street, the suspect had a breath alcohol concentration of .17 as indicated by the breath test. A level of .15 or more is considered aggravated DUI.
The count of threatening to perform an act of violence alleges Dangerfield told Vick he would “get him” if the arrest caused him to lose his scholarship.
Dangerfield, who is free on a $6,000 bond, is scheduled to have his initial court appearance Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. before Associate District Judge Mark Dobbins.
The threats count carries a possible five months jail sentencem and the DUI carries a possible year jail sentence and/or a fine of up to $1,000. Dangerfield was also issued a traffic ticket for driving under suspension. Assistant District Attorney B.J. Baker is prosecuting the case.
