Rapist targeted after failing to register here
A warrant was issued Thursday afternoon for the arrest of an area man charged with failure to register as a sex offender.
Special District Judge Sandy Crosslin set a $10,000 bond on the warrant for Justin Eugene Hendrix, 27, who was convicted of first-degree rape in 2001 on a case filed in 2000 in Atoka.
Court records show Hendrix has an Oakhurst residence, but he was allegedly living in Cherokee County earlier this year. He reportedly failed to register as a sex offender with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office between Sept. 15 and Nov. 18.
Hendrix is a Level 3 sex offender and must register for life. He is listed as a habitual sex of fender on the state’s sex offender website.
Hendrix also has a conviction in Creek County in 2003 for assault on an officer and other related charges.
Failure to register as a sex offender is punishable by imprisonment for up to five years and/or a fine of up to $5,000. Assistant District Attorney B.J. Baker is prosecuting the case.
Hendrix will be formally arraigned after his arrest on the failure to register case.
