Remember that speeding ticket you got in 1992 and chose not to pay?
You may have forgotten about it, but the Cherokee County Court Clerk’s office hasn’t. That’s because they’ve got outstanding arrest warrants for people dating back to the 1980s.
“We’ve got $4 million worth of outstanding warrants,” Court Clerk Shirley Glory said. “They all have cash bonds. We’ve got to get these served.”
The dollar figure comes from the state court administrator’s office. Glory says the warrants are for everything from felonies to traffic tickets for which people have not paid fines and court costs levied by the judges.
Glory said anyone who thinks he or she may have an outstanding warrant can check online at www.odcr.com or come by her office. She said local law enforcement officers have already started serving the warrants.
The clerk said those with warrants need to be prepared to pay the full amount owed when they come to the courthouse.
The clerk’s office accepts cash, checks on local banks, money orders and some credit cards. VISA and MasterCard are also accepted.
