Cherokee County’s Governmental Building Authority will continue to meet twice monthly in 2010 after action taken by the board Wednesday.
The board approved 2010 calendar year meeting dates, as required by statute. The dates must be filed annually with the state.
The CCGBA will continue to conduct business on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 9 a.m. in the conference room at the Cherokee County Detention Center.
The board is expected to have a new chairman, however, when the new year arrives.
District 2 County Commissioner Bobby Botts will be taking the helm, succeeding District 1 County Commissioner Doug Hubbard. It will be Botts’ first term as chairman of the CCGBA.
No other changes are expected on the board, which consists of Sheriff Norman Fisher, A.J. Morrison, George Kirk and Billy Bob Dougherty. Morrison is the current vice chair of the board. Morrison, Kirk and Dougherty are each serving as board members by appointment of the county commissioners.
Board members also heard from CCDC Administrator Loyd Bickel, who reported having 94 inmates at the time of the meeting. Six were being held in detoxification cells and 10 are women. Five have immigration holds.
Several are also being held for transportation to the Department of Corrections. Bickel, and Assistant Administrator T.J. Girdner said the facility is having to hold prisoners longer as they await bed space with DOC.
In months past, the wait has been six to 10 weeks, and it has grown to three or four months, they said.
What’s next
The next meeting of the Cherokee County Governmental Building Authority is Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 9 a.m. in the conference room at the County Detention Center.
