Second man held for bank robbery

A Porum man wanted in connection with the recent bank robbery at Keys turned himself in Thursday.

Joshua Toney, 24, was taken into custody after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Toney told investigators that he was involved with the robbery of $30,000, from the Commerce Bank in Keys, according to Jason Chennault, undersheriff for the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

A bank employee, James Hughart, 22, was arrested Wednesday after he admitted to the FBI and CCSO investigators he planned the robbery.

Authorities recovered Hughart’s half of the money, $15,002, in the truck he drove to the sheriff’s office.

Hughart told the FBI and county investigators that Toney entered the bank through a back door that Hughart opened for him.

Toney then allegedly threatened Hughart and two female employees with a handgun and made them wait in a restroom while he took more than $30,000 from the bank’s cash drawers, Chennault said.

Toney surrendered at his apartment in Porum, after contacting Muskogee County Sheriff’s Department investigators and the Porum Police Department.

According to another area publication, Toney’s share of the money hasn’t been recovered.

Chennault said Toney confessed to his part in the robbery, and then told deputies where to find his part of the cash.

Authorities found the empty bank bags, but no money.
