Mahaney gets lawyer for wrongful death suit

Press staff reports

A Muskogee attorney has entered a wrongful death case filed in connection with a double-fatality helicopter crash near Tahlequah.

Cherokee County court records show Ron Wright will be representing James G. Mahaney, a local optometrist and pilot, and father of Mark James Mahaney.

Mark Mahaney, 26, was killed in the crash of the helicopter he was piloting last month.

A passenger, Darci Scraper, 20, died in the crash. Scraper’s mother, Juanita Kristene Scraper, filed suit Oct. 30 against the estate of Mark Mahaney, and also sued his parents, James Mahaney and René Rozell.

Also named in the suit were Trevor Brannon Noble, Robinson Helicopter Co. and five John Does.

Scraper is represented by Garvin Isaacs and Nancy Zerr.

None of the other listed defendants has yet hired attorney for the case, according to court records available Friday afternoon.

Mark Mahaney was piloting a Robinson R-22 helicopter in the early hours of Oct. 14 when it crashed shortly after take-off. Scraper claims Mahaney was flying negligently and also alleges the helicopter was not operating properly.
